When given image patterns, kids seem to understand and locate the difference in between them. The difficulty comes when the patterns are in numbers. Some kids find it difficult to find the difference in between each number and identify the pattern. A helpful way of identifying the pattern in a number sequence is by taking 2 consecutive numbers and finding the “difference” in between them, then moving on to the next consecutive numbers and seeing if the “difference” is the same. If so you have found the pattern, if not, go back to the beginning and try finding another “difference”.
Alex had a plate of chocolate chip cookies. He ate 5 of them and gave his brother 3. He then took the remaining chocolate chip cookies to give to his soccer team of 8 members. The first member took 1 cookie, the second member took 3 cookies, the third member took 5 cookies and so on. As the last member of the team took his cookies, the plate was empty.
How many cookies did Alex have to start with?
